Hey all!
Has anyone ever bought anything from infomertials? I never have but some of them are interesting. What have you gotten? What would you like to buy?
I never have because I'm not sure how valid stuff is and whatnot. I guess you could say the same about online..but I dunno, online you can read the packaging and things like that.
You can generally look up a product online that you see on an infomercial and find out more about it as well as buy it online.
I can't say that I've ever bought anything from one of those 30 minute long informercials but I have bought a cople of things for *says in crazy announcer voice* "only 19.95 plus shipping and handling!"
They were both complete wastes of money. My son just had to have one of those Touch and Brush thingies, where you just swipe the brush under and puts the paste on the brush. Well, the first one they sent us was broken and to their credit they did replace it. It took about 8 weeks. The second one did not really work either so he learned a sad lesson.
The other thing I bought, a long time ago, was one of those Perfect pancakes. You know, you flip, and they flop. Well, I flipped and the pancake oozed out the side of the contraption. Plus, the nonstick coating was about the thinnest I'd ever seen, washing away after only one use.
We've pretty much sworn off those things in our house although I must admit, I'm tempted to try the Giant Blueberry.
No, I've never bought anything from an infomercial, or the kind of advertisement that Domestic Goddess described so accurately. I don't plan to. I've had friends and family who have made that mistake before, and it's one of the few lessons I learned by watching the experience of others rather than having to make the mistake myself. I'd say 99% of the claims made by infomercials and such over the top advertising are bogus, and the products not worth the time it takes to run the ad.
I never have bought anything from them, and, as someone else said, I'm not gonna waste my time/money.
I do have a friend who bought some sort of exercise contraption she saw on an infomercial. It might have been the total gym or something similar, I can't remember. Anyway she liked it. She also bought some sort of cookware, but again, I can't remember what it was. She an her husband both liked it.
we've bought several things. My wife bought the shark steam mop, and the shark vacume, both of wich we are still using about two years later. We also bought an abb rocket twister, once again she is still using it. So, while there are some worthless infomercials out there, there are some that sell real goods, that are decent reputable producs. One advantage to infomercials is, if there is something that let's say you can buy in the store such as a shark mop or vacume which cost in the 200 dollar range, you can get from the shark infomercial for 4 or 5 payments and usually they throw in additional products such as a steme mop ETC.
Didn't the George Foreman grill start out as an infomercial product? And look at how popular it became.
i've seen a 16 cd set, rock and roll history. i'm going to get that.
also another cd set called legends of country
We have a New Wave oven, a perfect brownie pan, several of those battery-powered carpet sweeper things, and a diet aid or two.
How is the new wave oven? and, the diet thing..I've offten have wondered about that new one called sensa. where you just shake it over your food and wala you lose weight!
Sounds good but...
A friend of mine bought the shark sweeper thing..the handle on it broke after a while but he just fixed it with tape and it still works as far as I know.
At Laced, those are the Time Life box sets. They have a whole bunch, and I've seen most of the commercials for them. What really gets me is they cost so damn much when you could probably buy the greatest hits albums from some of those artists for much less. My friend and I were just discussing this the other night, so I checked out the Time Life website, and I seriously couldn't believe those overinflated prices.
a secret also that I got stuck in with time life is once I bought something they constantly sent me new stuff to try and to send back if don't like. Yeah they paid for postage back if you did not like and or for a check but it became a huge hastle every couple of weeks. With them I have bought lots of sets on amazon for half and sometimes 75 percent less. It is from sellers but says new and everything. I love the store As Seen On TV because they have a lot of the same stuff on the infomercials for cheaper as well.
We really love the New Wave oven. It has a touch pad similar to a microwave oven, so we added some of those adhesive rubber dots to the thing. It's best to look at the manual and the cooking chart because things do take a lot less time to cook in it than in a standard oven. We've even successfully cooked a turkey in it with the extender ring.
woh! does the new wave oven come with an accessible chart? i'm asking cause I may be moving and may need a new cooking device.
It doesn't come with one, no, you will probably avhe to have somebody read the thing to you like we did, unless there are things available on-line now.
Ah, thanks anyway! I appreciate it!
Try directionsforme.com to see if instructions for this oven are available. If not, you can suggest that they add these directions to the site.
thanks lady! appreciate that! :) I always keep forgetting about that site.
I just remembered an infomercial that I bought a product from several years ago. A lady named Leslie Sansone had a program called walk away the pounds, and even though most exercise videos and exercise shows I saw on TV were impossible to follow without sight, this infomercial made it look like the program would be easy to follow because the moves were simple and she gave a lot of instructions. I ordered a set of three and was easily able to follow the exercises and ended up ordering even more.
oh cool! i should look in to that!
